Lisa Scott (Second Violin) and her husband, Perry Scott (Associate Principal Cello) recount their activities from this past year.
"Here’s a brief listing of what we have been up to:
*Participated in large orchestra videos created by the amazing Mike Muszynski *made 8-10 chamber music videos, including a Christmas one on which I unfortunately sang (never again!) *30 outdoor summer duo, quartet, quintet, and ISO musicians backyard and park chamber orchestra concerts, generously hosted by neighbors and friends, plus new music-loving friends connected by word of mouth as ISO members presented concerts around Indy. We did two kid-themed backyard concerts, one where the young audience dressed in movie character costumes *made some violin and cello arrangements of movie tunes and popular songs to include alongside duos by Boccherini, Devienne, etc. Audiences seemed to enjoy the violin and cello versions of “Despacito” and “Someone Like You” *private lessons — from home on Zoom *private lessons outdoors in the driveway and back yard during warm months *Zoom school orchestra teaching at Fall Creek Valley Middle School *Amazing online tutorial sessions from MYO’s dynamic and very patient Krystle Ford and Aren Bucci, who both spent hours teaching me (Lisa) the basics of the Flipgrid and Nearpod platforms so I could jump on to teach 5 virtual small group MYO lessons *made some cartoon drawings for Victoria Kintner Griswold’s production of her beautifully-crafted interactive musical story “The Big Note” *Revisited our Etude books
Non musical: *converted our front yard into a neighborhood community garden — 6 families — it actually produced some vegetables among the weeds *Perry furthered his study of Lichens and began co-authoring a paper on “Lichens and Licheniolous Fungi of the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area” *Lisa tried to improve drawing skills through daily speed drawing exercises. *our neighborhood is spread out enough to allow us to continue running outside without worrying about masks *enjoyed playing with our cat, SNAFU *we were able to connect better with far-flung family and friends thanks to Zoom — this technology, plus more frequent phone calls to family and friends, has been a surprising gift in these isolating times. Experienced “Gather Town” for the first time at a recent large family virtual gathering *weekly drives to Bloomington to visit my 88 year old mother, who thankfully is in good health and twice vaccinated."
